We were lucky enough to get our own little interview with Miss Iceland 2019, Kolfinna Mist Austfjord and how her Miss World experience was on top of having a little different outfit than usual. We both sat down together with ideas and came down to an agreement in the end. We came down to that we wanted a mix of Viking x Valkyrie x Wonder Woman. From your guys previous feedback, we did it justice, and that means the world for us!

Making of Miss Iceland’s outfit

Placing as the 3rd runner up in the National Costume Category, blew out mind, and It’s very nice to get this epic placement!

Now it is time for us to get to know Misty a little bit better, and how her Miss World experience was!

  1. Introduce yourself!
Hey guys! My name is Kolfinna Mist Austfjord, but most people call me Misty. I’m a 23 year old singer/songwriter and my favorite things in the world are music, Disney and reading.

  2. How was the Miss World experience?
It was absolutely incredible. I’ve learned so much about myself and the world since being at Miss World. It was also one of the most difficult experiences I’ve ever had and multiple times I questioned if it was even for me and wanted to just go home. There’s a lot of expectations that come with representing your country in this way and in the first few days it was almost too much for me. I got used to it after a while and I also made friends for life and met girls who will always be there for me if I need them.

  3. How were the reactions to your National costume?
Everyone absolutely LOVED my national costume. I personally also think it is the best one Iceland has ever brought to the Miss World stage and my suspicions were confirmed when I heard the roaring cheer that ensued when Iceland was announced and I stepped on that stage, feeling the most confident I ever have.

  4. What kind of feedback did you get from the costume?
After the show, so many people wanted a picture with Miss Iceland “The Fantasy Viking Woman”.
I think that says it all.

  5. What is your favorite memory from the whole experience?
I have so many amazing memories, when Iceland made it into the top 20 in the Talent Challenge for the first time ever, when I was picked to sing a song on the final night with 9 of the best singers I’ve ever heard, when I was told I was top 6 in talent! But the best one was going to record the song we sang on the final night at Abbey Road Studios! That will be the best day of my life for a long time.

  6. Favorite quote?
This is from A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas and is really resonating with me these days.
“I once lived in a place where the opinion of others mattered. It suffocated me, nearly broke me. So you’ll understand me, Feyre, when I say that I know what you feel, and I know what they tried to do to you, and that with enough courage, you can say to hell with a reputation. You do what you love, what YOU need.”

  7. What advice would you give to people who struggle with their confidence?
I’m extremely fortunate that I’ve always been so confident in my own skin, so I actually only have really annoying advice like “just stop caring what other people think!” etc.
But the best advice I can really give is to just give yourself time to figure out who you are and how to be confident in that. It’s a very personal process for everyone. It’s also important to let yourself feel the negative feelings, so that you know how to get rid of them.
